NATO and EU facility security clearance for Polish companies
Published: · Maksymilian Kruszewski
Contracts for NATO, the EU, international agencies and foreign primes often require a Facility Security Clearance (FSC) covering international classified information. In Poland this is handled within the industrial security certificate system.
National Security Authority
The Head of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) is the Polish National Security Authority. For the defence sector the function is exercised through the Head of the Military Counter-Intelligence Service (SKW).
Key differences from a national certificate
- ABW or SKW issues separate certificates for international equivalents of SECRET and CONFIDENTIAL, valid for 7 and 10 years respectively,
- even a level III certificate for international classifications requires a protection officer and security unit,
- personnel need an extended vetting procedure, even for the CONFIDENTIAL equivalent,
- foreign nationals may access SECRET information only in specified roles within the contractor; the officer and deputy must be Polish citizens.
